Im building a custom MUSIC PRODUCTION pc let me know if its good.?

Question by javy: Im building a custom MUSIC PRODUCTION pc let me know if its good.?
Let me know what you think. if there is something better i can add to make my project better then a Mac Pro. Remember its a music production PC not a Photo or Film computer. i don’t really care for video enhancements.

i have so far…
-Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4 GHz Processor
-XFX nForce 680SLi NVIDIA Socket 775 ATX Motherboard
-OCZ 4096MB 800MHz Memory (2 X 2048MB)
-Western Digital Caviar SE16 500GB Hard Drive
-Ultra Black Alumminus ATX Mid-Tower Case
-700W Power Supply
-PNY Verto GeForce FX 5200 Video Card
-Sony DRU190A 20x DVD Rewritable Drive

I’d drop the 680SLI and replace it with a 780SLI to futureproof your pc. Even then, SLI may be overkill, especially when you are running a 5200 video card. I’d drop the video card too. I would get at least a 8600GT if you like faster redraws of your audio signals. The 5200 is a dead card. I should recommend a X-Fi soundcard also.

Realistic prop glasses for theatrical/film purposes – help, opticians/optometrists!?

Question by j: Realistic prop glasses for theatrical/film purposes – help, opticians/optometrists!?
Is it possible for an optician to make realistic-looking prop eyeglasses for theatrical purposes?

I’m helping out with props/costuming for an original short film production. One of the main characters is described (paraphrasing from script) as “astonishingly nearsighted, her eyes almost hidden by the massive lenses of her glasses”. The actress who has been cast for the part occasionally wears glasses, but only a mild prescription; we would like to get her looking the part as closely as possible.

I know you can get gag “coke-bottle” glasses from any costume shop, but those always look cheesy and fake. It would seem to make sense to go to an optician’s and tell them what we need, as they could surely make a pair of real, thick prescription glasses for us – but then our actress would not be able to see through them.

So, how can we solve our dilemma? Would it possible for an optometrist to fit the actress for a pair of contacts that would allow her to see through some realistic looking thick prescription glasses, thus enabling her to really look the part and still be able to see during filming?

If we do go this route (if it’s indeed possible), how much might we expect to pay for a contact lens fitting, a small supply of disposable contacts, and a big honkin’ pair of thick glasses?

Thanks for any suggestions you can offer!

Film Director or Sports Agent/Coach (Financial Aid?)?

Question by C M: Film Director or Sports Agent/Coach (Financial Aid?)?
Well it’s my senior year old high school so I have alot of college stuff to do. I have a small list of colleges that I’ve come up with based upon me wanting to study Sports Management with hopes to become a sports agent or coach or something in the athletic world. Now I’ve always wanted to be a director, but then through most of high school Sports Management has always seemed like my true major, but lately I’ve been thinking more towards film directing.

Now I would love to major in one and minor in another, but using CollegeBoard, no colleges in New England (I’d like to stay in NE, specifically MA) offer both.

My colleges I’ve come up with for Sports Management are:

American International
Anna Maria
Umass Amherst
Western New England
Becker
Mount Ida

And the one college in MA that offers Film Production according to CollegeBoard is:

Fitchburg.

My question is, which career path would you follow or do you think would be easier/more successful? Any pros/cons would be helpful and any thoughts are great too! And if you know any other colleges or majors that would fit here please tell!

Also, sorry this is really long, but can you explain financial aid to me? I am honestly very lost with this whole college thing. CollegeBoard gives tuition (is that the main cost?), then room & board, books and supplies, personal expenses, and transportation expenses. These are all seperate costs right? And it says the average financial aid package, then need-based loan, then scholarship and grant, can you recieve all these or just one? And what indebtness at graduation? How much graduates usually owe?

Sorry to sound dumb about all this especially because I should know it all since it’s coming fast, but I’m really clueless and any help is awesome! Best answer will be rewarded!!

Both of your career selections are highly unrealistic. Very few people can make a career of being Sports Agents or Film Directors. Its very likely you’re headed for the soup kitchen after graduation.

Your parents would be doing you a big favor to decline paying tuition for “Film Directing” or “Sports Management”. Do THEM (and the taxpayer) a favor by choosing a realistic college major.

Question by technicallychallenged: Where/How can I buy supplies for vintage polaroid cameras?
I’m thinking about buying a cool polaroid camera. Thing is, before I buy one, I’d like to know that the flash bulbs, film packs, etc. are still in production for whatever make I purchase. I don’t know a lot about polaroid cameras, so any info would be great!
